Abstract

The real vegetation cover and the agricultural landscape of South-Eastern Tunisia are analysed by interpreting a very detailed map as well different tables concerning land use in these marginal regions of the Sahara. Such analyses seem to be important with regard to further studies of the regional climate. Thus, the present paper is especially concerned with changes of the landscape. The quasi natural steppe areas are more and more vanishing on the mainland. On the island of Djerba, only small relicts of nearly wild flora exist. Also the agrarian landscape changes on the mainland and on the island of Djerba. The replacement of olive-trees by the plantation of other fruit trees seems to be very apparent.
