Abstract

With the expanded ZEISS-STEREOCORD system even the geo sciences working with cartographic representations are being offered a photointerpretation kit which, though requiring relatively little servicing and expenditure, offers the possibility of strictly quantitative numerical and cartographic aerial-photograph interpretation even to scientists with insignificant photogrammatric knowledge. The development, capabilities and basic manner of functioning of the instrumental equipment, which is designed in accordance with the principle of standardized units, are shown and some data concerning precision and tolerance of error are provided. Practical experience of the application of the instrument is demonstrated on the basis of two comprehensive studies already in progress, and the considerable facilitation of field work achieved through its use are made clear. As the first result achieved by the authors a map plot of areas of Bolivia never previously worked-up is presented and the article is added to this periodical as a supplement; this is a software version of the STEREOCORD expanded by a rectified cartographic presentation.
